Episode Guide: Frog or Finish

Welcome to the inaugural episode of Frog or Finished—a new chaotic tradition where I dig through my ever-expanding collection of crochet WIPs and try to answer the big question: Do I frog it or finish it? 🐸🧶

This time, I unearthed 12+ projects, most of them unreleased designs, ranging from crochet experiments to test swatches that somehow became emotional support yarn blobs. You’ll hear the stories behind each one, from forgotten hooks to “what was I thinking?” moments—and get to help me decide what’s worth salvaging.

Plus, we've been chatting spring + summer crochet plans over in Discord, and there’s LOTS to look forward to (yes, including future teasers and maybe even a finished pattern or two).

Episode Guide: Frog It or Finish It – WIP Roundup with Britt

If you prefer to read instead of watch, or want to follow along while you listen, here's the full guide to my recent video where I go through a ridiculous number of WIPs from my crochet stash. From forgotten shawls to swatched-but-not-started tops, it's all here—and I’d love your input on what to frog and what to finish!

Intro

Hi, my name is Britt and I am the crochet designer behind Knot Bad Britt, and welcome to my channel!

Today I'm going to be sharing the ridiculous amount of WIPs (works in progress) that I have in my collection right now. I just recently found them while trying to clean out my space, and wow—there's a lot. Some are designs, some are personal projects. Some I remember starting, others... not so much.

But I want to make sure I share them with you, so let's jump in!

WIP 1: Houndstooth Triangle Shawl

This was an abandoned design for absolutely no reason. It’s a bottom-up houndstooth triangle shawl in three holiday-inspired colors using Treehouse Yarn (likely fingering weight, 4mm hook). I can’t remember the yarn names, and they may be discontinued.

I’m not sure whether to continue it or frog it—but I do love houndstooth.

Status: On the fence — frog or finish?

WIP 2: The Captiva Crop

This pattern had potential. I swatched it (blocked and everything!) but now I can’t remember what hook I used.

The yarn is Manos del Uruguay Alegria in the color Carnival. It’s a fingering weight blend of superwash merino and polyamide—soft and vibrant.

I still have over 800 yards, so it could easily become a tank or tee. But first, I need to re-swatch.

Status: TBD — finish or repurpose?

WIP 3: Half Herringbone Scrap Cowl

This one’s extra fun. It uses four strands of yarn held together:

The fabric is plush and bright, with pinks and pops of yellow.

Status: Likely to finish — might fudge the hook size!

WIP 4: Drinks on the Patio Crop (Knit)

Using yellow tweed yarn from Montana Crochet, I attempted to knit the Drinks on the Patio Crop by Shana. It’s been a couple years, and my tension may have changed.

Needles are still attached, so it could be salvageable—but I may need to restart.

Status: Restart or let it go?

WIP 5: Spring Waves Shawl (Design)

This was going to be a triangle shawl with a wavy border, worked top-down using Treehouse Yarns sport weight in the color Worth Fighting For.

Everything is still here: yarn, swatch, even the hook! The lavender edging was going to be so dreamy.

Status: Strong finish potential — bring Spring Waves to life!

WIP 6: Parisienne Beret

A travel project from my first Rose City Yarn Crawl. Holding together:

  • A laceweight mohair (likely Hedgehog Fibers in Artichoke)
  • A tonal companion yarn

Beautiful fabric, but the gauge is way off. Might frog it and repurpose the yarn for a simple shawl.

Status: Frog-worthy?

WIP 7: Jessie Maed Tank (Knit)

Possibly a Jessie Maed pattern, in DK weight Malabrigo from an old KnitCrate box. The ribbing and stretch make it promising, and the needles are still in.

Status: Could finish in time for Flock!

WIP 8: Crochet Basket

Pretty sure it’s a TL Yarn Crafts pattern. I use this basket all the time—it’s functional and beautiful.

Status: Finished! ✨

WIP 9: One Shawl Three Ways (Experiment)

I tested one shawl pattern using three different weights of Malabrigo:

  • Worsted
  • DK
  • Fingering (Jasmine)

Each version was soft and lovely. A cool way to show how one stitch pattern can adapt.

Status: Finish the set? Working title: "One Shawl, Three Ways"

WIP 10: The Visionary Tee

Yarn dyed in my honor (!) by The Frosted Stitch, inspired by a photo of me. The colorway is called Visionary.

It started bottom-up, but I prefer top-down. Then I switched construction but lost steam.

Status: Worth finishing — love the pooling + stitch definition.

WIP 11: Original One Shawl Three Ways Swatch

Busy yarn from Cat Sandwich Fibers made it hard to see stitch definition, but it laid the foundation for the "One Shawl, Three Ways" idea.

Status: Early prototype. Unlikely to finish.

WIP 12: Shawl Shapes from Flock Class

During last year’s Flock, I taught a class on shawl shaping + stitches. These are the working samples:

Status: Two WIPs with strong potential. Just need time.

WIP 13: Heartbeat Shawl

My most recent design, using Treehouse DK weight yarn. A heart-shaped shawl with a patchwork border of three colors.

The red color is This House Has a Heartbeat, named after a Noah Kahn song—hence the name Heartbeat.

Status: Definitely finishing this one. Fall vibes!

WIP 14: Spencer Crop

Actively working on the Spencer Crop by Courtney from Tinderbox. Using Treehouse Mulberry Silk DK in the color River and Wind.

Using a 2.25mm hook to match gauge. I just separated for the sleeves!

Status: In progress — target finish by Flock.

Wrap-Up & Call to Action

So that's what your girl has right now! Fourteen (maybe more?) WIPs that are a mix of design ideas, personal projects, and hopeful restarts.

I would love your help: Which ones should I frog, and which ones should I finish?

Come chat with me in the Discord community, or drop your thoughts in the comments.
