Hi there, My name is Britt and I’m the maker behind KnotBadBritt. You might have found me via Instagram from my account @knotbadbritt or @themakersofcolorcollective. Maybe you discovered one of my patterns on Ravelry or Etsy. However you found me, I’m glad you’re here.

I started crocheting in 2015 as a way to make something for my first daughter. The end result was a horribly misshapen blanket that could be called a parallelogram at best! That blanket took me forever to make, even though I chose super bulky yarn to make it in. Regardless of the shape and lack of craftsmanship, my daughter LOVES that blanket and still carries it with her to this day. The magic of a handmade item will never be lost on me.

Since making this magic blanket, I’ve discovered a place for myself in the crafting world. I’ve tested patterns for other crochet designers and major brands, which is how I have honed my skills over the past few years. I’ve participated in markets to understand the handmade customer from the consumer perspective. This led me to dip my toe into designing my own patterns and finding my own design style.

What I’m most proud of is highlighting other makers of color and creating a discovery account called The Makers of Color Collective. Highlighting makers of color is a true passion for me. Representation is important. I have a few plans for growing this out over the next year or so and hope to help it become more of a resource over time.

Well, that’s me. There are a few things I can promise you in my little corner of the internet:

  • I write in my actual speaking voice.

    • You won’t find much code switching here. I am authentically me and if that is a problem that’s really just too bad.

  • I offer my honest opinion

    • You may find that a post was supported by a brand or laced with affiliate links but that does not sway my opinion in any way.

  • I’ll keep the ads to a minimum

    • Look I hate them too but operating costs are a real thing. I’ll do my best to maintain some passive ways for you to support my work.

I’m looking forward to taking this journey with you. Peace.
