Have you heard of Hobbii? Hobbii is a yarn company based in Denmark. They have an amazing amount of colors and blends on their site.

Recently they reached out to me to see if I would like to review a few of their yarns and I said YES! I love trying out new yarns and imagining them in KBB patterns.

Below you will find my honest review of the three non-superwash wool yarns.

Who is Hobbii?

Hobii is a yarn company based in Denmark. They are a fun company that loves to engage with their audience. In business since 2015, Hobbii has created yarns that people across the world love. At first glance, the price point can’t be beat. But I’ll be putting that idea to the test. Is the low price always worth the value? Let’s get into it.

HObbii Friends

Hobbii Friends Wool in Color No 89

Weight: Worsted / Medium
Yardage: 100m / 109 yds
Content: 100% Non Superwash Wool
Ply: 4
Skein Wieght: 50 gms / 1.75 oz
Price: $5
Hook Used: 5mm / US H-8

Rating: 4/5

Review:
Friends Wool feels a bit rough on the hands when working with it. The yarn has a toothier feel You can feel the rawness of the wool without feeling itchy on my skin. However, once this is blocked, that all goes away. The ply is consistent and doesn’t lend itself to splitting when crocheting. This isn’t my first choice for something close to my skin, I prefer a softer yarn.

With the number of colors, this yarn comes in, I would recommend it for a fun colorwork blanket. I can also imagine it making cables pop with its sturdy structure.

You might notice that this color number matches the other Friends Wool yarn that I reviewed. One of the benefits of this line is that the colors correspond through the different lines. It makes finding your favorite colors across multiple weights a breeze. I really appreciate this special touch that Hobbi brought to this line.

Uses: Blankets, home goods, pillows

HObbii Highland wool

Hobbii Highland Wool in Color No 12

Weight: Dk / Light
Content: 100% virgin Peruvian non-superwash wool
Yardage: 175m / 191 yds per
Skein Wieght: 50 gms / 1.75 oz
Price: $9.10
Ply: 4

Review: When I typically see something made of virgin wool I am expecting the classic scratchy wool feel. Instead, this wool is wonderfully soft. the wool comes from a mix of Merino and Corriadale sheep. Merino lends it the softness and the Corriadale gives the structure.

One thing I enjoy about this range is the type of colors you get. Because of this unique wool, many of the yarns are heathered. Color no 12 is one of the few completely saturated colors ways. Typically they look like a blend of many colors, which I find very beautiful.

I see this yarn as your everyday hand warmers, your scarf that gets passed down from one child to the next, or your layering sweater.

Pattern Suggestions: Sweater, scarf hat

Hobbii Extra fine merino

Hobbii Friends Extra Fine Merino in Color No. 89

Weight: Sport / Fine
Content: 100% Wool
Yardage: 165 m / 180 yds
Skein Weight: 50gms / 1.75 oz
Ply: 4 strands of 2 ply
Price: $7.80

Review:
This. Yarn. Is. Soft. So soft! I’d love to see what the micron count is on it because I bet it’s high! The feeling of it in hand is comparable to other superwash merino and nylon blends that are triple the cost. For that alone, this is an amazing buy.

This yarn is bouncy and springy. This means that it will have a bit of stretch to it before blocking it. Be sure to keep an eye on this so that your makes don’t stretch out over time after using this yarn. Unfortunately, the bouncy ply isn’t spun very tight so be on the lookout for splitting. If you have a problem splitting yarn with 2ply yarn, you will have a problem with this.

I would recommend lightweight makes for this. Think bouncy tanks, not heavy blankets.

Pattern Suggestions: shawls, garments, & hats
